To embody truth, reality, empowerment, lyricism and talent through Hip Hop is almost unheard of in the late 2000's. The overall definition of Hip Hop changes clothes and occasionally wears make-up, but the skeleton will never change. The beats have evolved and become more complex, but Magnum – O has withstood the test of time and rode with each changing bass line.

1988 was the year that sparked what is now Magnum Opus. L Tyranic and Born Prince of West Philadelphia met while attending Milton Hershey School (MHS) in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Two hours outside of Philadelphia, the school would become a home away from home for the duo. In 1989 West Philly connected yet another cell, Mengesha a born Hip Hop visionary whose role in the group transformed as time changed.

By 1992 the cells grew and formed into tissue and called themselves The Prophets; Born Prince, L Tyrannic, Gahsh, Rasskull, Seva-G, Ace, Rex, Magic, Tetris, Al Shid, Ounce and the late Dre. They started in the school yards performing for their classmates, not only honing their skills but also showmanship. They were clearly influenced by the Golden Eras of the 80's and 90's. By 1997, The Prophets were fully functional but not quite the organ of Hip Hop that they would come to be. In that year Mengesha had all the studio equipment that cost most groups thousands of dollars in studio time. Together the Prophets ripped stages, emcees, and mic's along the east coast.

With differences, life, and Hip Hop politics, The Prophets disbanded and Menesha and L Tyranic formed Sub Level in 1999. The love of Hip Hop and the brotherhood could not keep these talented young men apart. Within the same year they regrouped but everyone plays their individual role. Mengesha moved to Atlanta and formed OMyGahsh Productions, which aids in the business, graphics, and sound of Magnum O. Al-Shid formed Sound Bar Recordings and moves crowds around the globe.

In 2005 they exploded on the scene with memorable performances all over Philly. Gaining momentum in the underground they made noise with their debut album "Ain't No Mystery" in 2006. The album was an instant classic and featured "Strawbridges" which is regarded as a turning point. Sound was traveling fast and the group was making a name for themselves. L Tyranic and Born Prince who held down the brotherhood since the beginning are the driving force behind Magnum O. Rass went to the Air Force and came back and can now be heard consistently on the music that has been made within the past three years. When Ras came home from his tour of duty in 2007 they went straight to the studio and began recording "Where The Sidewalk Ends". The mixtape was supposed to drop that autumn but was postponed when L Tyrannic was shot in October. Six days later the group made a performance at the Medusa Lounge with L Ty in a wheelchair that brought down the house, solidifying their status as heavyweights in the underground. Joining forces with THOR Takeover they released "Where The Sidewalk Ends" in March 2008 @ The Buckshot show. Not ones to be consumed by trials and tribulations they moved forward. In March of 2009 they dropped "Quality Over Quantity" with White Chalk Ent. The mixtape was considered an instant classic yet again. "Masterpiece Theater" is the long awaited follow up due this summer. The focal point of the group is good music with a message, something positive for the youth and revitalizing Hip Hop. Fans in PA,NJ,NY,CT,MD can attest these brothers are serious.
